Spanish Admiral Eugenio Diaz del Rio finished his command as head of SNMG-2

Malaga July 8, 2014 - The Spanish frigate Cristóbal Colón, the Turkish frigate Kemalreis and Canadian Regina entered these days in Malaga, next to the American cruiser Leyte Gulf, to effect control relay ceremony today between Spain and U.S. in front of the naval group SNMG2 (Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 in the acronym).
The vessels have been moored at the dock of the Marquis of Guadiaro and Levante dock and open to public tours in the afternoon.
The handover ceremony held at 11.00 am, the Spanish Admiral Eugenio Díaz del Río by American Admiral Brad Williamson was chaired by the commander of NATO Maritime Command, Vice Admiral Peter Hudson Britain.
Diaz del Rio Admiral completed, during the command of the group a six-month deployment in the Indian leading the NATO operation against piracy "Ocean Shield" and seven months in the Mediterranean, which has made several contributions to the operation of counter-terrorism "Active Endeavour".
Spain assumed command of the Group on 15 June 2013. After more than a year of operation 277 days at sea and 65,000 miles sailed, transfers responsibility to the United States.
